Hi Kevin,

Agreed, that is an option. But likely not one that a smart traditional vendor would undertake…the community response could be a marketing nightmare. Also, depending on the license/copyrights/trademarks, another 3rd party could resurrect the code/project.

There is another, perhaps more likely, reaction to #4 in your list than what is described in #5. Traditional software vendors do not have to adjust their business models if they buy some OSS stuff just to throw it in the garbage.
