Agreed, that is an option.  But likely not one that a smart traditional vendor would undertake...the community response could be a marketing nightmare.  Also, depending on the license/copyrights/trademarks, another 3rd party could resurrect the code/project.</description>

		<description>There is another, perhaps more likely, reaction to #4 in your list than what is described in #5. Traditional software vendors do not have to adjust their business models if they buy some OSS stuff just to throw it in the garbage.</description>
